Frequently Asked Questions about the Auto Tuner Secure Gateway Bypass Cable
What kind of reading is this?
This is a default reading. For some vehicles, the original file may not be available on the server. We are notified immediately when a file is missing and can quickly upload it.
Will I be notified when the file is available on the server?
Sure, if the file is not available and you provide your email address in the dialog box, you will be notified via email once it is added.
What is unique about this method in terms of complexity and risk?
This is a rather unique obd method. In fact, the secure gateway on some vehicles requires connecting the ATPG050 cable to a connector in the engine compartment. Therefore, the process turns out to be much more complicated than the standard OBD-II diagnostic socket. However, rest assured, we have put everything in its proper place in the AutoTuner instructions to help you locate the connector and follow the various operations without any risks.
Why is this cable necessary?
The ECUs in question are often equipped with a “secure gateway” that prevents writing via the OBD-II diagnostic socket. In this case, it is necessary to use the ATPG050 cable to write to the ECU.
What is a “secure gateway”?
It is an authentication system set up by the manufacturer to interact with the vehicle through the OBD-II diagnostic socket.
How do you know if a vehicle is equipped with a “safe gate”?
Once the OBD cable is connected, during identification, AutoTuner immediately indicates whether the vehicle is equipped with a “Safe Gateway”.
What happens if I try to write via obd method without this cable?
You will receive an error message because the SGW (Secure Gateway) prevents entry into programming mode without prior authentication.
How do you maintain contact while writing?
A detailed procedure is available in the AutoTuner software help when the relevant ECU is selected.
If the connection is lost while writing, will the ECU be unusable?
Fortunately no, our recovery solution will allow you to write the calibration again. All you have to do is follow the instructions to maintain the connection while writing to avoid this problem in the future.
Should I use the ATPG050 cable for the data logging function as well?
Data recording as well as error (DTC) deletion can be performed via the OBDII diagnostic socket using the usual OBD cable (ATOBD001).
Public Beta, what does that mean?
Unfortunately, due to the large number of vehicles targeted by this new feature, we did not have the opportunity to test our solution on all vehicles equipped with Secure Gateway, especially for Nissan and Mitsubishi manufacturers. Therefore, we invite our community to help us improve and enhance the proposed solution.
